K/1 Planning a drawing ** 2nd Texture** 3-5 Radial Balance

Come back to see student examples at the end of each unit!
Kinder and 1st Lesson 1-10-11

Standard: 3.1b Plan a work of art by sketching

Objective:  IWKBT
Listen to a story (How do dinosaurs get well soon?) and plan my art by:
                            Sketching with pencil
                            Labeling with colors
Telling my plan to a classmate and complete drawing according to plan.

DOL:
Using a sheet of paper draw a plan

Activities:
                Listen to a short story.
I do: students watch me draw a plan from the story
We do:  Students copy my plan.
                                Give the DOL
You do: Students listen to a different story and draw a plan by sketching with a pencil and labeling colors.  Then students tell friend their plan and complete their picture according to plan.

Examples:

2nd grade Lesson 1-10-11

Standard: 1.2a Tell how one element in a piece of art makes you feel.(texture)

Objective:  IWKBT
Identify the textures: rough, smooth, soft, course, bumpy, spiky, pokey, slimy.
Tell how a given texture makes me feel.

DOL:
On a paper, draw a chosen texture and use a “feeling” word to describe it.

Activities:
I do: I will draw all of the textures on the elmo and label them rough, smooth, etc. I will also label each with an example of a possible feeling.
We do: We will draw all of the textures together then label them using TPS if we forget the feeling that goes with each.
                                Give DOL
You do: Students will use a themed emotion with color and texture to complete a feeling.  For example: Sad, color blue, texture smooth water. Excited, color orange, texture bumpy roller coaster. They will use pencil to sketch a plan and crayon to color.

3-5 grade lesson – Unit Balance (radial) End of unit.
Continuation of balance.  Students can identify radial and symmetrical balance and have demonstrated they know balance by correctly coloring templates showing radial and symmetrical balance.

Standard: 3.1a – Use the elements and principles (principle of balance) of art and design to convey meaning.

Objective:  IWKBT
Create radial balance by planning, drawing, cutting, and coloring with oil pastels.

DOL:
Previously completed DOL and practiced radial balance.

End of the unit rubric will be used daily to check Demonstration of learning by self assessing progress and sharing with a neighbor where they are at and how they will get to the next higher step.

I Do:
Show them examples of project to spark interest and gain attention.
Demonstrate how to trace, cut, and fold circle.
Show how to draw radial design and balance on circle.
Show how to color circle in radial balance pattern.
 We do:
Trace, cut, and fold circles as a class.
 You do:
Draw personal design independently and color with oil pastels
Assess yourself daily on your progress, by using the rubric.
Assess yourself at the end of the project and conference with teacher.
